In fine arts, literature, and other disciplines, minimalist design is an artistic movement which started in the late twentieth century, primarily with American contemporary art, most notably in the later 1950s and early ’60s. It was sparked by the movement towards simplicity, minimalism, and geometric patterns. Minimalist art focuses on the appearance of objects, their forms, size, shape, and colour. Minimalists are known for their “flat,” uncomplicated, and symbolic approach to art. In its most popular form, this movement involved using geometric patterns, such as squares, rectangles, and ovals, in order to create a visual experience that reduces the appearance of subject matter, making the focus the artwork itself. Although this style is very stylistically diverse, it typicallyudes to a modern sensibility and an appreciation of the simple aesthetic of everyday objects.
In minimalist design, the most important art element is the artwork itself. Unlike other styles, it does not have a specific shape or form. Instead, it relies on patterns and the arrangement of elements within a picture to create a visual experience. The elements include shapes, colors, textures, and patterns that are arranged in a geometric form. These elements do not need to be geometrically symmetrical or symmetrically distributed; they simply need to appear as a unit. Because there are no strict rules to follow, minimalist design is very flexible in how it presents these elements.
As an example, one might create a website using a minimalist design consisting of a header, footer, body content, and a few graphical elements. The header is the piece that draws the reader’s attention, providing them with an overview of the site. The footer provides the visitor with brief information about the rest of the website, such as introduction, navigation, and contact information. The body content usually contains links to other sites and graphics, while the graphic objects may include pictures, illustrations, posters, or photographs. These graphic elements can serve a functional purpose, but they also can serve as a decorative element, since they can greatly improve the appearance of the website.
One important thing to note about minimalist design is its emphasis on the use of white space. Even though the elements and graphic elements are arranged in a more-or-less geometric shape, they do not have to be boxed in. For instance, instead of using a box around the image of a child, it may be more effective to place the graphic element against a white background. Since white has a neutral color, it is a great color for this particular graphic element. With minimal editing, it can even be removed if the user wants.
Achieving minimalism involves minimizing the use of design patterns, such as using black-and-white backgrounds. Since black-and-white designs are monochromatic, they are much less visually distracting than patterned elements, such as those that make up a website’s header. With minimalism also comes an emphasis on content. Unlike classic design, which emphasizes the over-all look of a site, minimalist design focuses more on the specific details of each individual element. For example, instead of putting a lot of thought into the color scheme of a site’s header, it is best to leave it default, and to use a more plain color, such as black, for the rest of the design elements.
Another way to achieve minimalism in web design is to use only a few colors, such as a light blue for the header, and a black color for the rest of the page’s background. The same thing can be done with the elements on a website, such as the links and buttons. Although some designers prefer to use bright colors for their links and buttons, they should be kept as a last resort, because using so many bright colors can get really distracting. It is better to use a few dark colors, perhaps two or three, for most elements of the web design. This helps prevent busy from being overwhelming, while at the same time helps the designer concentrate on the important details, such as the text on a particular button.
One other way to create a minimalist design is to avoid using text on the visual part of a site. Instead, using a picture to draw attention to an essential element of the page, such as the name of a company, or the tag line of a particular photo on a blog, is a good way to draw people’s attention to it. Even if a picture is a basic outline, a good designer knows how to make pictures stand out, and can work with any color palette. Even if the company uses several colors, its color palettes should be similar so that it will be easier for them to create visual balance.
While minimalist design is great for a home or a business that has a simple look in general, it can have its drawbacks. One major drawback is that it can make the person navigating the site feel that information is cluttered and unimportant. In order to combat this, try making the most essential elements, such as the menu bar, the tag line on the picture, and the color scheme on the web pages, as unnoticeable when the page is displayed. In addition to having a clean and uncluttered look, minimalist design should also provide plenty of white space. A room can become cluttered if there is a lot of open space, but with a clean line and lots of white space, a room will appear less busy and more focused. In essence, a blank page can serve a number of purposes, rather than cluttering up with too much stuff.
