Acrylic Nail Art – How to Get Started With Acrylic Nail Art

What are minimalist nail art acrylics? They look sort of like airbrushed, photoshopped or stenciled images. They’re supposed to be like that, but they aren’t… Not exactly. So why not use them?

When it comes to nail art designs there are so many options right now. Why limit yourself? A couple reasons actually. The first is, of course, obvious. You can get really amazing looking nails if you know how to do them right.

The second reason is less obvious. That is, you can make minimalist nail art designs for yourself that you’ll be proud to show off. Don’t worry about perfection – after all, your home isn’t the Art Museum or anything. But having some idea about how to start and then get cracking using this method can be very empowering.

There are lots of fantastic looking nail art acrylics out there right now. They’re usually acrylic and include lots of fancy colours and designs. Most of these will work with a regular manicuring routine – nail art is sort of forgiving and you can always mix and match your colours and designs. Here are some tips to help you find the best minimalist nail designs to suit your own sense of style and lifestyle.

First of all, remember that most expensive isn’t always best. Acrylic is cheap to manufacture so the cost should reflect that. If you have a budget then you should probably consider acrylic art for your nails rather than more expensive alternatives like gel or gold.

Buying a kit will allow you to build your collection over time. This will mean that you can slowly add to your collection as you get more confident in your own nail art skills. I’d suggest buying at least three different kits. Start with two and work your way up from there. It’s worth investing in good quality acrylics so that your nails will last much longer and look better for longer.

As you look through different brands and styles of acrylic nail art, you’ll notice that they come in different thicknesses. Thinner ones tend to look better when you have thinner nails and vice versa. I find that thicker nails look much better with thinner acrylics. There are exceptions to this however and if you have thick and wobbly nails then thicker may not be what you’re looking for.

You’ll also need to decide whether you want your acrylic nails to be clear or coloured. Having clear acrylics can help you see exactly where your nail is. Coloured acrylic nails tend to make your nails look a bit messy and are harder to keep clean but again, it’s really personal preference. Have fun and experiment with your choice of acrylic nail design.

Once you’ve picked your design, it’s time to get started on your DIY nail art. Start by removing any of your old nail art with a cotton tip nail brush and soap. It’s best to avoid using nail polish remover because the remover may cause damage to your acrylic artwork. Once you’ve washed away all traces of your old artwork, it’s time to prime your nails. A basic primer will do just fine.

Make sure you’ve primed your acrylic artwork before you start applying the design to your nails. If you have thick and wobbly nails, this may be especially important. Use a cotton swab to apply the primer to your nails and let it soak for about five minutes. This will allow the primer to become pliable enough to use. You’ll have to buff your nails to dry once they’re dry so make sure you keep your hands away from them until they’re dry.

Once the acrylic art has dried, you’re ready to place your nail art on your nails. Make sure the design is at the base of each nail and that you paint in a smooth even layer. Don’t worry about the ends, because you can easily cover them up with a nail varnish. The great thing about painting your nails is that it’s very easy to do. If you have trouble getting your acrylic artwork to stick to your nails or if it feels like it’s not adhering properly, don’t hesitate to remove the paint and try again. Some people may not like the look of their acrylic art sticking around.

As you can see, creating minimalist nail art isn’t nearly as hard as it sounds. If you want to try your hand at creating some artwork of your own, there are dozens of acrylic painting books that are available both in stores and online. The only problem with buying these books is that they tend to be fairly expensive. Fortunately, there’s no need to break the bank when it comes to a little abstract art. Simply use your imagination and you’ll soon be creating your own amazing acrylic art.
